Profit, Prudence and Virtue - Essays in Ethics, Business and Management

The result of a 2007 STI Experts Meeting with the Witherspoon Institute, Profit, Prudence and Virtue is the updated edition of another STI publication, Rethinking Business Management. Now republished by Imprint Academic, Profit, Prudence and Virtue includes, in addition to the original Rethinking Business Management essays, a preface by Professor John Haldane of the University of St. Andrews, and newly commissioned essays that address the financial crisis specifically.

Hoping to build on our understanding of the current state of business management the volume offers, where appropriate, suggestions for improvement in business instruction, management and practice. Business education is too frequently radically separated from other disciplines and treated as a science, bolstered by the reportedly fixed laws of economics and the advances in technology, all unto itself. This volume seeks to readdress this assertion and argues throughout that business is indeed a person-centered, human activity and thus critically requires for its study perspectives from ethics, anthropology, philosophy, and the humanities broadly. STI hopes Profit, Prudence and Virtue will be particularly useful for the instruction of business students and all those who hope to engage in its improvement.
